SPRINGFIELD, MA — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced $7.4 million in workforce development grant funding for 16 initiatives across Massachusetts, representing partnerships with employers, training providers, and regional collaborators to train, upskill, and provide job placement for 1,161 workers for in-demand occupations in health care, education, information technology, and more.
MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board will provide training and placement services to 30 unemployed and underemployed participants for Commercial Driver roles. Employer partners include Brockton Area Transit Authority, T&K Asphalt Services, Diesel Direct, Cape Cargo Inc., Schneider, Champion Container Corporation, and Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast.
“MassHire GBWB is excited to once again bring this crucial funding back to the Greater Brockton Region to support the training and successful employment of in-demand commercial drivers. These large vehicle operators literally drive our region’s economy, and this grant will enable us to infuse local commercial fleets with new, highly skilled drivers. Not only will our employer partners benefit, but this type of training will help under/unemployed individuals attain licensure that may otherwise have been fiscally out of reach. A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) can immediately help someone enter a highly desired and rewarding career, something that this board is proud to play a part in.”
