MassHire GBWB Awarded $350,000 to Train CDL Class A & B Drivers

Brockton – MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board (MHGBWB) has been awarded a $350,000 Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund (WCTF) Grant that will train thirty-two unemployed and/or underemployed individuals from greater Brockton and southeastern Massachusetts to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and employment.  With an average annual growth rate of 4%, the demand for commercially licensed drivers in our region prompted this investment.  An average wage of $23.41/hr., this career path leads to increased wages and job satisfaction for our customers. This project is funded by a Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant (Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund FY’21 Appropriation) through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and is administered by Commonwealth Corporation.   Eligible training candidates will be identified through a partnership between the MassHire GBWB, MassHire Greater Brockton Career Center and the Region 6 Southeast Massachusetts Workforce Boards & Career Centers from South Shore, Bristol, and Greater New Bedford.  Parker Professional Driving School will be the training provider and numerous local employers have partnered with MassHire GBWB to establish direct pipelines to employment for the newly licensed CDL A & B drivers upon completion. The first cohort is expected to begin in March 2023.

Individuals looking to participate in training and employers interested in hiring CDL drivers are encouraged to contact MassHireGBWB for more information at 508-584-3234.
