MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board celebrates International Women’s Month with the addition of three Board members who are leaders in their field

March 22, 2023 (Brockton, MA)

During International Women’s month, Mayor Robert Sullivan appointed three new members to the MassHire Greater Workforce Board.  Karen Preval, Jill Conlon and Maria Fernandes will be joining the Board of Directors for the workforce agency, MassHire Greater Brockton.

Karen Preval, City Auditor for the City of Brockton, will also serve as the Treasurer of the agency. Reviewing finance & auditing processes, Karen is well appointed to this position with over a dozen years in municipal finance and experience with nonprofit entities.  Ms. Preval will also serve as a liaison to the Mayor’s Office, ensuring performance accountability.

Maria Fernandes, Director of Early College and Post-Secondary Pathways at New Heights Charter School of Brockton will be joining the Board to provide insight & guidance in the field of career planning and connections for our youth programming.  Ms. Fernandes has a successful history of partnership development and sustainability, having worked in both the Higher Education and Nonprofit sectors.

Jill Conlon, Executive Vice President at BAMSI, will be contributing her knowledge of nonprofits and program development for specialized populations.  Ms. Conlon is the Executive VP  at BAMSI, an organization founded in Brockton with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges.

Providing leadership and guidance on the industries prominent within our region, the Board is made up of 51% private business to encourage the incorporation of real life experiences and knowledge.  The balance of the Board includes union members, post-secondary and secondary education representation along with community organizations.

MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board, along with the Mayor of Brockton, charters MassHire Greater Brockton Career Center, the One Stop Career Center operated by the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute. Providing oversight and leveraging resources, MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board works with our community leaders to respond to current trends in our region.
